Frequently Asked Questions

What is your photography style?

I like to think that I am a blend of traditional and non-traditional.  If I were forced to describe the style with a few words I would have to say that my photography style is refreshing, energetic and candid with a little photo journalistic flair thrown into the mix.  I love dynamic color ranges and prefer black and white photography and the variety of sepia tones available in post processing.  My overall goal is to capture each person in an accurate and representative way so that their personality can shine through in each and every photograph. 

Okay, so we want you. What’s the process?Well, it’s simple.

Step 1: Get in touch and send me the following. You and your partner’s names, your wedding date and location.

Step 2: I’ll let you know if the date is available, and if it is I’ll send you my packages and we can set up a meeting to go over more details.

Step 3: Sign the contract and put down half of the package cost as a retainer to secure your wedding date.

When will our photos be ready?
I am as anxious as my clients in wanting to see the images.  I typically post the images (at your request) to social media sights, such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest as well as to your private gallery within 48-72 hours.  Your final images will be delivered within 90 days after your wedding date.

When do your clients typically start booking with you?For you planners out there, we can start booking 18 months ahead of time, but on average, most clients book 8 to 14 months before the wedding day.  I have taken on weddings with less than a weeks notice.  Regardless of your situation, I am here to answer any questions you may have and help you through the process.

What happens if you’re booked? Are we stranded with no one to shoot our special day?If your date is already booked up, I would be happy to refer you to a another fabulous Photographer that I have personally worked with on others weddings.  

What camera equipment do you use?

I am currently recording images with a professional Canon 5D Mark III DSLR camera body with a variety of Canon L Series Macro, Zoom, Telephoto and Prime lenses.  I prefer the use off camera flash in the form of Canon speed lights due to the portability and versatility that they provide to the photographer.  Another added benefit is that it allows me to shoot wirelessly without oversized strobe units with large and cumbersome battery packs.  This translates to a very mobile and professional caliber lighting platform that can be utilized in any outdoor or indoor setting.  I can literally take the studio to the client and shoot in an environment that is comfortable for the entire family. 

Do you travel and shoot outside of Connecticut?

Absolutely! I love traveling and shooting at different locations.  I will travel to all of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.  I will make the trek to southern Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont as well as New York, New York.  If you want me to travel to a tropical paradise to shoot your wedding, you can count me in!  :)

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes, I am fully insured and am able to provide proof/certificate of liability insurance to your venue at their request.   

Do you shoot RAW or JPEG?

I only shoot in RAW and have the ability to format the pictures into JPEG files so that clients can view them with standard computer software.  Shooting images in RAW allows the photographer to have complete control over exposure, white balance and other essential parts of a photograph.  This is a benefit to my clients in that it allows me to deliver the highest quality products available. RAW files are "loss-less" and hold more data than JPEGs resulting in a higher quality digital file.  Photographs are memories of special fleeting moments in life that should not be compromised with lower quality files such as JPEGs.

How many pictures will I get?

The number of photographs you will receive depends on many things... the hours of coverage, the variety of locations and how much time I have for shooting the bride and groom portraits, the amount of family photos and wedding party photos, the weather, the types of details you have and how involved they are, the number of guests you have and how much fun and partying they'll be doing.  Typically for weddings one can expect to receive more than 1000 images.

Do you give the copyright to the photos?

There is a difference between "copyright" and "usage rights." As the creator of the photographs, I forever own and hold the copyright to the photographs. As the copyright owner, I provide specific "usage rights" to my clients for either personal or commercial use of the photographs.  In these instances, you will be provided with high resolution CD(s) containing all of the images, which will allow you to order prints yourself or print them out at home.  This option also allows you to send photos electronically to friends and family. 

Do you do black & white photos?

I almost prefer black & white photos, that is how much I love the power of a great black and white photograph! So, I would have to say YES! Often when I'm shooting, I see the image in my head as how it would look in black & white.  In digital photography, I shoot all images in color and can process any photograph into a multitude of colors and shades of black and white, sepia and other various color filters.  I want you to feel secure in knowing that all of the images will be captured in full color and will be presented in various color variations for you to get a better idea of the look you prefer or to assist you in making a decision.  It really all depends on what the client wants.   

What are your wedding albums like?

I offer a variety of albums to include traditional flush mount albums where the images are printed onto photographic paper and flush mounted onto thick rigid pages, and modern coffee table style albums where the images are printed directly onto the pages to name a few.  There are endless varieties of the binding style, cover materials, color and finish.  I would be happy to discuss all of the options with you at your convenience.  I am currently utilizing the following three wedding album companies:  



Do You Offer Discounts?

Absolutely!  Customer satisfaction and referrals are extremely important to Halkett Photography.  As a benefit to you for making the referral, I will provide a 10% discount to you on your next session.  I will also extend the 10% discount to the client being referred to me.  This is my way of thanking you for recommending me.  If you become a repeat customer and choose me to record your special moments year after year, I will extend additional savings to you.  My primary goal is to provide excellent photography services at a very affordable price.  

Will You Travel?

Yes,  I will travel anywhere within 75 miles of Woodstock, Connecticut as part of what ever package you book.  Each additional mile will be billed at $.50 per mile (Google Maps with starting zip code of 06282).  If the wedding or photography session is out of the New England area, all airfare and travel expenses to include lodging, are to be paid for by the client.  I would be happy to shoot a wedding or portrait session wherever you desire!
